Feehan served in the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air Missile Defense Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the department said. “Pvt. Gonzales was ᴀssigned to 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command, Ansbach, Germany.”

The incident is currently under investigation.

“Godspeed, heroes. Their sacrifice only stiffens our resolve,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on X following confirmation of the two U.S. troops’ deaths.

President Donald Trump also spoke about the casualties at Joint Base Andrews, Fox News reported.

“Well, we feel very badly. But you know, those great people, those great patriots were out there fighting so that Iran could not have a nuclear weapon,” the president said.

In an update released on Sunday, July 19, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that, in addition to the two casualties, military personnel found unidentified remains at the location. Those remains are currently being examined for identification.

CENTCOM said on Saturday, July 18 that four American soldiers were transported to Jordanian hospitals and have since been discharged. An unspecified number of personnel who were checked for “minor injuries” have already returned to duty.

The casualties from Friday’s attack brought the total number of U.S. military deaths in the Iran War to 17, The New York Times, the ᴀssociated Press and CNBC reported.

The count includes an unidentified service member who was killed in northern Iraq on Saturday. CENTCOM confirmed that the service member died “during a controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone.”

In a later update, CENTCOM said it had successfully concluded its ninth consecutive evening of strikes against Iran. Targets included “military command centers, air defense and coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites and communications networks.”
