Bronx Community Honors 12-Year-Old Jacob Freytes

BRONX, New York — Family members, friends, classmates, and residents of the Bronx gathered in an emotional balloon release to honor the memory of Jacob Freytes, the 12-year-old boy who p4ss3d aw4y after being struck during a sh00t1ng outside a neighborhood bodega in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx.

The tribute brought together hundreds of people calling for peace while remembering the young boy’s life.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Jacob Freytes, the son of retired NYPD Detective Sergeant Jesus Freytes, was riding his bicycle to purchase a ball when g0nfir3 erupted during a dispute involving several individuals outside Wanda Deli Grocery on Elliot Place.

Investigators said Jacob was an innocent bystander and was not the intended target. Two other people were also injured.

Authorities have identified William Ferrer, 45, as the principal suspect.

Prosecutors charged him with multiple offenses, including second-degree murd3r, attempted murd3r, ᴀssault, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
