Oh, we’re funny, ain’t we, Oprah?
In the tabloid it came out that I was having a red-H๏τ romance with Dudley Moore.

Well, she was called the town Like she was just one of those people and I think Well, I think women were really jealous of her.
I mean, she just was probably like us a lot.
She uh it she wore her hair all you know, blonde peroxided and she wore lipstick, long nails, short skirts, тιԍнт.
She was beautiful.
>> Yes.
>> And I just thought she was great.
And I everybody would just say, “Oh, she’s just trash.”
And I thought, “That’s what I’m going to be when I grow UP.”
>> YES.
>> I THOUGHT THAT >> [applause and cheering] >> was the way SHE LOOKED.
>> YES.
YES.
>> SO, I DID GROW UP TO LOOK LIKE THAT.
>> AND if you think that’s wild, just wait until you hear what Dolly had to say about her own body.
>> You have wonderful legs.
Is that your best feature?
>> I don’t know.
Is it?
It’s not my biggest feature, BUT >> [laughter] >> I WAS TELLING THEM OUT OF breath I was saying, “You think as big as my lungs are, I could hold more air.

And trust me, nobody in that room saw what was coming.
>> Queen Latifah, she’s queen, a hip hop, rap, TV, and screen.
>> Can you tell me what’s the best part about you being in your 70s?
>> NOT A DAMN THING.
I AIN’T NEVER GOING TO BE old because I ain’t got time to be old.
I can’t stop long enough to grow old.
I’m just going to be the best I can be at whatever age I am.
>> What we doing?
We both love Oprah, but Oprah ain’t got nothing on you.

>> Queen Latifah?
>> Why not?
Cuz I’m crazy over her.
And we’re just having such fun together.
We both feel like it was a blessed project.
>> In my days growing up, I admired my heroes, singer, trooper, Dolly Parton.
Never did I think I’d grow up to fight Dolly Parton in a movie.
>> What is with those nails, Edward Scissorhands?
You just don’t like >> Madonna.
>> Amen, sister.
>> Well, I am who I am.
>> Maybe you were five procedures ago.
>> Who cares if I’ve had a few little nips and tucks?
God didn’t make plastic surgeons so they could starve.
>> We had the best time.
>> It’s probably the only time I ever have lost a fight in a movie, only to Dolly Parton.
>> The black celebrities who worked alongside her only ever had good things and funny stories to share about Dolly.
>> I can even tell you a great story about Dolly just so you know what kind of person she is.
Um, you know, I was sitting down and I was a little bit sad, you know, just dwelling on the fact that my mother wasn’t there.
And Dolly looks at me, she says, “Kiki, you miss your mama?”
And I’m like, “Yeah, you know, I just I miss my mom so much.
” And she says, “Come over here and give me a hug.
I’m going to have God send your mother’s love through me.”
And I’m just like, >> [laughter] >> Who said that?
Dolly said amazing stuff like that.
I’m just like, I don’t know where Like, you can only be an angel to say something like that.
>> [music] [singing] >> Through the entire Joyful Noise shoot, Dolly would come in to the nines [music] each and every time.
Hair done to the tee, face beat to the gods, outfit on point, huge big boot heel.
>> And you know, Dolly was so fun on set.
And you know, she wears pumps this high.
And at one point, she was standing on a box.
And I said, “Dolly, sweetie, you can take your shoes off and rest your feet.”
She turned to me and said, “Jennifer, you got to keep on my shoes.
” That’s everything.
I said, “You keep them shoes on, baby.
You do whatever you want.”
And then she came through with the rhinestones again.
>> Oh.
>> Listen, Dolly would put a rhinestone on, blind you, and you had to get out of there.
>> [laughter] >> And when I tell you Dolly Parton’s middle name should have been sugar, sugar, sugar.
She’s the sweetest thing, but she’s so creative and honest in her creativity.
>> Isn’t that wonderful?
This is the spirit of Dolly that you’re really addressing without knowing it.
Is that she’s so collaborative and open?
So, when Sam Haskell, whose idea this whole thing was, came and said, “Debbie, you’ve got to do this movie.
Dolly’s written this music.”
I look at And then Dolly, when I started working with her, was so open to every idea that I had about changing an arrangement or adding a new song or flipping something this way.
>> Whoopi Goldberg even defended her haters.
>> 77-year-old superstar Dolly Parton stole the show AT THANKSGIVING AT THE Cowboys-Commanders game dressed as a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, but some critics told her to act her age.
Bite me.
>> But did you know they actually worked together all the way back in 1987?
>> for her.
She appeared in an episode of the variety show Dolly in 1987.
>> I vaguely remember that, do you?
>> [laughter] >> Then came the question about Whitney Houston.
And she shared her thoughts in a way only Dolly Parton could.
>> Houston gets credited the late great for I will always love you, but that’s actually a song penned and also previously recorded by Dolly.
That’s her song.
>> [cheering] >> Yes, [applause] but she made it so much more.
I always told her, you know, people say that’s Whitney’s song.
I said, “That’s okay.
She can have the credit long as I GET THE CASH.
” >> AND I’ll tell you a little story then we can end Dolly Parton.
I was working with her on her show.
And people were saying, “Aren’t you jealous that um Whitney recorded your song I will always love you?”
She said, “Jackie, come here.
Come here.”
We went in her dressing room.
She said, “Let me show you something.
” And she went in her drawer and pulled out a copy.
And she said, “This is my first royalty check from I will always love you.”
So I looked at You know what it said?
And it was >> First one.
>> Mhm.
>> A million dollars.
>> WOW.
>> SHE SAID SHE SAID, “YOU THINK I’M ANGRY?”
>> [laughter] >> SHE ALSO STAYED close friends with Whitney Houston’s cousin Dionne Warwick.
>> Dolly meant a lot to me.
She was a friend.
[music] And I mean, a friend from the very instant we said hello.
I got the call from her.
“Come on down to Nashville.
I want you to [music] sing this song with me.”
>> [music] [music] >> I said, “Oh.”
I said, “Is it not the old people?”
“No, no, it’s the new one.
It’s one I wrote.”
I said, “Okay.
I’m on my way.”
And when I got down there, I’d say I think we laughed more than we sang.
>> Well, some big music news this year.
Beyoncé covering Jolene.
>> I know.
>> What are your thoughts on her version?
>> Well, I think it was very bold of her.
I when they said she was going to do Jolene, I was expected it to be my regular one.
But it wasn’t.
But I love what she did to it.
And as a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your songs no matter how they do them.
But she wasn’t about to let somebody She wasn’t going to go beg some other woman well I did [laughter] to not steal my man.
She out here [music] you ain’t stealing him.
>> Here’s my million dollar question.
Has anyone been in contact with Jolene and what does she think about all this hype?
>> Oh, well you know what?
I don’t want to see her either.
I’m I’m not rewriting in Beyonce style.
>> [laughter] >> Say okay, not for you woman.
>> And that’s just a small taste of why Dolly Parton is quietly a comedy legend because she’ll always find a way to leave us speechless.
>> My boobs could fly out, my hair could fall off.
Any number of things could happen to me.
