In 2021, NASA selected SpaceX as the sole developer of the Human Landing System (HLS) for the Artemis III program. This mission marked the return of humans to the lunar surface since the Apollo era in 1972.

Mission: To land the first female astronaut and the first person of color on the Moon’s South Pole.

Method: The crew would leave Earth aboard NASA’s SLS rocket, then transfer to SpaceX’s Starship in lunar orbit to land on the surface.

3. Space Tourism Project: “dearMoon”
