Federal Agents Search Ilhan Omar’s Home — DOJ Issues Statement as Investigation Draws National Attention
Federal agents have searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s home today (October 12) in a criminal fraud investigation, according to reports.
Both the ᴀssociated Press and Fox News confirm the Department of Justice’s case is open against the political figure.
“Today in the Washington, DC area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” a DoJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The raid comes just three weeks before midterm Election Day.
Fox News reported agents were examining the immigration paperwork that the congresswoman’s father filled out when she was a kid, which comes after Donald Trump accused Omar of fraud.
The fraud allegedly relates to her family’s immigration history, reports The Guardian.
Omar was born in Somalia and came to the US aged eight.
She was later first elected to Congress in 2018.
In the past, Trump has threatened the congresswoman with deportation, and has even hinted at opening a federal investigation into Omar.
On Saturday, Trump said of the possibility: “Let’s see what happens.”
He went on to claim that Vice-President JD Vance ‘and our people are looking at it very strongly.’
In August, Trump wrote on Truth Social that ‘ICE refuses to disclose records on Ilhan Omar fraud probe, cites ongoing “enforcement proceedings”‘, and in June he wrote: “Ilhan Omar, who does nothing but complain about our Country, yet the Failed Country that she comes from doesn’t have a Government, is drenched in Crime and Poverty, and is rated one of the WORST in the World, if it’s even rated at all. How dare ‘The Mouse’ tells us how to run the United States of America! We’re just now coming back from that Radical Left experiment with Sleepy Joe, Kamala, and ‘THE AUTOPEN,’ in charge.”
But this is just one in a string of comments made by the Trump administration.
In December of last year, he also accused her of having ‘married her brother,’ adding that she ‘should be thrown the hell out of our country.’
In March, Vance told political commenter Benny Johnson: “We actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud.”
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said to Johnson: “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him into the United States. We know he lives now in London. We feel that there may be more to this, the whole family migration, and possibly some illegal activity for them to come to the United States to begin with. But all of us, we’re investigating.”
