A Louisville youth football coach is mourning the loss of 14-year-old Jahlil Brown, who was sH๏τ and killed over the weekend in the city’s Cloverleaf neighborhood.
Police said officers responded Saturday night to a fight in the 700 block of Gagel Avenue and found two boys who had been sH๏τ. Jahlil died at the scene.
Lovelace said another former player called to tell him Jahlil had been sH๏τ.
“Notifying me that Jahlil had been sH๏τ, to be able to see it close up, it was very devastating to see my baby laying there like that,” he said.
Lovelace said he had known Jahlil since he was 5 years old and watched him grow up through the program.
“Jahlil started down here with the Mighty Mights playing, then ended up over here playing with the Juniors,” Lovelace said.
Over time, Lovelace said, Jahlil became like family.
“My grandson was one of his closest friends, because even though he wasn’t my son, he was around the family mostly every day,” he said.
