The attorney representing Christina Siders, the grandmother at the center of Ohioâs so-called âHouse of Horrorsâ case, argued that she was the âonly adult in the homeâ responsible for caring for the family.
âDefendant paid for rent, utilities and other necessities in the home,â the attorney states in a filed motion.
âDespite her own medical conditions, Defendant was also tasked with caring for her husband and his significant medical needs and physical limitations.â
The attorney has additionally peŃΚŃioned for a reduced bond to permit her client to reside near family members.
âThe nature and circumstances of the crimes charged, despite initial hyperbolic statements by officials and excessive public speculation and media coverage, involve no evidence that the alleged acts involved violence, physical harm, weapons, or an ongoing threat to public safety,â the motion adds, reports the Mirror US.

âThe available facts indicate that the charges pertain to allegations that Defendant, along with her husband, permitted her son, her daughter-in-law, and their children to reside in her home.
âThere is no evidence that Defendant participated in any acts of abuse causing serious physical harm to any of the alleged victims.â
The children, ranging in age from 20 months to 18 years, were removed from the familyâs residence in Hamden, Ohio, on June 30, earlier in July. They were found when officers executed a search warrant connected to a separate charge involving the childrenâs father, Gary Siders II, 36.
According to authorities, Siders had allegedly exposed himself to the public on four separate occasions in May. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson described the children as being crammed into a single 12-foot-by-12-foot room âcovered in bugs and squatting,â with a âdistant look in their eyes.
âThey looked like almost feral animals,â Wilson said. âIt was terrible.â
