Growing memorial of Joan Sebastian Guerrero

Posted by hoangduc - July 23, 2026

A growing memorial in Biddeford, Maine, continues to honor the life of Joan Sebastian Guerrero, the 26-year-old Colombian national who died following an encounter involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents earlier this month.

Family members, friends, neighbors, and supporters have gathered at the site, leaving flowers, candles, handwritten messages, and pH๏τographs in remembrance of the young husband and father.

Reports continue to describe the memorial as a place where members of the community have come together to offer prayers and support for Guerrero’s loved ones.

According to federal authorities, Joan Sebastian Guerrero was not the individual originally sought during the ICE operation.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have stated that agents attempted to stop a vehicle during the enforcement action and that an ICE agent discharged a firearm after perceiving a threat.

The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Maine Attorney General’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Guerrero’s family has said he was on his way to work when the incident occurred. They have described him as a devoted husband and father to his 3-year-old daughter, adding that he was legally authorized to work in the United States and had been building a life with his family in Maine.

Relatives have continued calling for a full and transparent investigation into the events that led to his death.

The case has also drawn the attention of public officials. U.S. Senator Angus King has stated that he was informed Guerrero was not the intended target of the operation.

Meanwhile, Colombia’s diplomatic representatives have requested information from U.S. authorities as the investigation continues, while community organizations have organized vigils and memorial gatherings in Guerrero’s honor.

As candles continue to burn and fresh flowers are placed at the growing memorial, supporters say they hope Joan Sebastian Guerrero will be remembered not only for the circumstances surrounding his death but also as a hardworking husband, father, and member of the community.

Authorities have not yet released final investigative findings, and officials say additional verified information will be made public as the review progresses.
