A woman who was dubbed “mom of the year” for juggling carrying her baby and bringing food to her husband at a baseball game has spoken out regarding backlash tied to the viral clip.

Ericka Alvarez can be seen in the video, posted by Barstool Sports on X, carrying the couple’s baby daughter while simultaneously holding boxes of food for the pair at the San Francisco Giants’ Sept. 22 game against the Minnesota Twins.

Announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper called Alvarez, 39, “mom of the year” and the “definition of a mulтιтasking mother” during the broadcast, before poking fun at her husband, which sparked backlash online.

In a Substack post shared days later on Friday, Sept. 25, Alvarez addressed the controversy surrounding the viral clip. “Before you decide what our marriage looks like, I would like you to hear from the woman you’re defending,” she wrote.

“Ramses is an amazing husband and an even better father … A conversation the audience couldn’t hear became the basis for millions of judgments about that life,” Alvarez continued.

She then explained that she and her husband “initially thought the broadcast was funny,” but they changed their tune once “people on the internet treated the announcers’ imaginary narration as evidence of our unequal relationship.”
