Ocean Springs, Mississippi — Nolan Xavier Wells’ family has strongly pushed back against claims that he drank alcohol and drowned on Horn Island, calling them “outright lies” meant to cover something up.
On the morning of July 5, 2026, Nolan was supposed to return home and attend an important scholarship interview for a college football program at Southwest Mississippi Community College.
His parents, Elmore and Christine Wonsley, say he could not have been drinking heavily the night before.
“Conroy could not have been drinking on the 4th,” Christine Wonsley said firmly.
“The next morning he had a scholarship football interview.
If someone says Nolan was drinking, that’s just a lie to cover something else.”
Elmore Wonsley added:
“Nolan was a disciplined athlete who never drank. He had a serious future ahead of him. This drowning story is not true. Someone is trying to cover something up.”

Family Demands Full Transparency
Nolan’s family and attorney Ben Crump have repeatedly asked for the complete toxicology report and all other evidence.
They point out that high alcohol levels in his system would make it impossible for a young man who was supposed to have a football scholarship interview the very next day to have died from drowning.
“Even if he drank, it still doesn’t explain the timeline or why he was left on that island alone,” Crump said.
“This is not just an accident. There are too many unanswered questions.”

Public Reaction
The statement has sparked strong reactions online.
Many people say the family is right — a disciplined athlete who needed to show up for a scholarship interview could not have been drinking heavily the night before.
“This makes zero sense,” one comment read.
“If Nolan had to be at a football scholarship interview the next morning, he couldn’t have been drinking.
That story doesn’t add up.”

Current Status
Nolan Wells’ family continues to demand full transparency from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
They want the complete toxicology report, all phone records, and every detail of what happened on Horn Island on July 4, 2026.
The case remains unsolved, and Nolan’s parents are not stopping their fight for answers.
Nolan Wells was not a victim of alcohol or drowning.
He was a young man with a bright future who deserved the truth.
