Patrick Clancy describes 8-month-old son Callan dying in his arms days after Lindsay strangled kids in heart-wrenching ‘60 Minutes’ interview

Patrick Clancy described how his youngest son, Callan, died in his arms days after his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, attacked their three children during a heart-wrenching “60 Minutes” interview.

The grieving father recalled learning his 8-month-old son, Callan, had a heartbeat after he found his two other children, 5-year-old Cora and 3-year-old Dawson, strangled with exercise bands in their Duxbury, Mᴀssachusetts home in January 2023 during the highly anticipated sit-down with CBS correspondent Ross Douthat on Sunday night.

“I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live. And I — I remember just thinking, ‘Just gimme one. Just gimme one kid, and I would raise him as best I could, and I would give him the best life I possibly could. I’d tell him about his brother and sister,’” Patrick Clancy told Douthat.

Baby Callan was alive for four days after being airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital.

“I’m so grateful for those four days that I had with him. And I’m so grateful he hung on,” Patrick Clancy said.

“I said, ‘I’m so sorry.’ And I got to — I got to hold him. I got to lay down next to him. And he died in my arms,” the heartbroken dad said with tears in his eyes.

Patrick Clancy appeared beside his wife, fertility doctor Rachel Danis, in their first joint appearance after Lindsay Clancy’s triple murder trial concluded with no decision made as to whether she was guilty of killing her three kids or innocent by reason of insanity.

The sit-down comes just three weeks after the murder case ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 — following six weeks of grueling testimony detailing the killings and the mom’s mental state that captivated the nation.

Only one holdout juror, Michael Desronvil, refused to find her not guilty by reason of insanity. The other 11 jurors sided with Lindsay Clancy’s claims that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis. The judge ultimately declared a mistrial over the hung jury.

Patrick Clancy supported his ex-wife during trial testimony, expressing how she spiraled after the birth of their third child and repeatedly sought help from doctors, but only worsened as she was prescribed a cocktail of psychiatric medications.

He told Douthat he felt he “did the best” leading up to the shocking murders, in which Lindsay Clancy was also left partially paralyzed after she jumped out of a second-floor window in a botched suicide attempt.

“I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time. And I live with the outcome. I live with it every day,” he said.

Patrick Clancy said Lindsay Clancy never asked for forgiveness for killing their three children, but he “gave it to her” anyway.

The heartbroken dad, who remained stoic and fought back tears through much of the interview, said that in the weeks after the tragedy, crowds of mourners dispersed and “everything just came to a screeching halt.”

In April, after feeling unable to live with the memories in Duxbury, he relocated to New York City for more anonymity. While there, he lit a candle in St. Patrick’s for Callan’s first birthday, and expressed relief for being able to grieve openly without judgment.

“Everything just came to a screeching halt. And then there was a day where I– really without thinking, I drove by their school. And it was at the exact time that all of their friends were getting dropped off. And I was just– I couldn’t be there anymore,” Patrick Clancy said.

During that period, he said there was a time he experienced suicidal thoughts.

“There was a time where I — I didn’t think I would live to see my 35th birthday. And I was completely fine with it,” he said.

Patrick Clancy also revealed a brand-new playground in the Clancy’s old hometown of Duxbury, featuring tear-jerking touchstones of sloths, firefighters, and a toddler’s playpen to honor Dawson, Cora, and Callan.

After the shock mistrial, Patrick Clancy called the prospect of a second trial “extraordinarily painful” in a statement released by his lawyer.

His attorney also lashed out at the “escalating campaign of misinformation” being waged against the dad by unhinged influencers and “minor celebrities” seeking attention throughout the trial.

He again slammed the conspiracy theories about his involvement in his children’s murders on Sunday, blasting them as “deeply harmful” to his children’s legacy.

“It’s deeply harmful to the legacy of my children. It is a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health. And it’s done real harm to real people, myself included but also others,” Patrick Clancy said.

“It’s painful to see. And it makes it difficult to be in public, and it’s possible that some of those people after seeing lie after lie after lie, they start to believe it and that’s what we’re left with.”

Danis, who met Patrick Clancy in January 2024 at a run club in New York, said she has learned to carry her husband’s grief.

“I always — try to take some of the sh– weight from Pat. I always wanna strive to do that. I know I can’t fix– I can’t bring his kids back. But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, it– I guess that’s all I can do.”

The couple, who tied the knot in April, also told Douthat that they are starting a family and cannot wait to tell their new children about Callan, Cora and Dawson.

“I think every parent can agree, you have different relationships with your kids, but they’re all your kids. And I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,” Patrick Clancy said during the interview.

Lindsay Clancy remains at Tewksbury State Hospital in Mᴀssachusetts while she awaits the fate of her case.
