Trump Creates New Committee to Investigate Fed Governor Lisa Cook — What Happens Next?
Posted by Team - October 9, 2026
President Trump has launched a special committee to investigate allegations that Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook made false statements after the White House accused her of mortgage fraud.
The move was a notable escalation in the president’s repeated efforts to fire Cook, a nominee of former President Joe Biden, after the Supreme Court blocked him from doing so in June.
“As President, it is my job to ensure the laws are faithfully executed, including by firing subordinates who cannot be trusted to tell the truth and follow the law,” Trump wrote in an announcement dated Wednesday and shared on the White House’s social media Friday.
“To ᴀssist me in carrying out that responsibility, the Committee shall investigate the allegations against Governor Cook and report to me whether there is ‘cause’ for Governor Cook’s removal.”
