California conservative commentator Katie Zacharia is headed to the White House briefing room after President Donald Trump tapped her to become his next press secretary.

Zacharia, a former Department of Homeland Security spokesperson and mom-of-four who left the agency in March, was appointed Friday to take over the high-profile role.

“It is my Great Honor to have just appointed, as Press Secretary, Katie Zacharia. Katie currently serves as Senior Communications Advisor to Truth Social (Trump Media & Technology Group), where she has been outstanding!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Zacharia, 41, currently serves as the Senior Communications Advisor for Trump Media & Technology Group, Trump’s Truth Social platform, a role she’s had since June, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She also works as a legal advisor for Fix California, a conservative group focused on improving election integrity in the state. It was founded by Ric Grenell, former acting director of the Kennedy Center and acting Director of National Intelligence under Trump’s first term.

“She was previously involved in my Campaigns, ᴀssisting in key Swing States, where we won 7 out of 7,” Trump wrote. “She has an unblemished record of support, and has been a loyal and brilliant supporter, right from the beginning.”

“She is, likewise, a devoted fan and member of MAGA! I am confident that Katie will deliver strong results for our Country as the next White House Press Secretary, as she has the respect of, and will work fantastically with, the Media, the American People, and my Administration,” he added.

She will take over the job left by Karoline Leavitt, who left in August following the birth of her second child in May.

“Thank you to President Trump for the distinguished privilege of serving as White House Press Secretary,” Zacharia wrote on X, after the president’s announcement.

“Serving President Trump and the American people at this critical 250-year mark is the honor of a lifetime,” she added. “President Trump has shown America that we can be great again, and he works to effectuate that greatness every single day. His confidence is a true privilege, and his leadership is a blessing to this country.”

Zacharia called following Leavitt “a high standard, and one worth meeting.”

Several leaders have congratulated her, including Republican Congressman for Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, Abraham Hamadeh.

“Proud of my friend Katie Zacharia. She will represent President Trump and the Administration exceptionally well as the White House Press Secretary,” Hamadeh wrote on X.

The Fox News commentator is married to movie producer Tyler Zacharia, who does projects for Angel Studios.

Katie previously posted a family picture on Instagram showing their four young children they share and saying how proud she was of her husband who made great movies like “David,” “The Brink of War” and “Young Washington” that came out this year.

Zacharia first made her way to Washington, DC, in 2006 as a part-time intern with the Republican National Committee while attending Pepperdine University, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She then worked for the White House Office of Political Affairs during George W. Bush’s second term.

Zacharia obtained her law degree from Pepperdine University as well, and was a judicial extern at the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

After law school, Zacharia moved to China in 2011 and worked as an ᴀssociate with the international practice team at the Zhong Lun Law Firm in Beijing.

Zacharia explained in an interview with “LA Mom Magazine” that she spent about a decade out of the workforce, raising her young children, when she returned to the states in 2013.

“My career developed, actually, in a very untraditional way,” she said in July. “I knew I wanted to go into politics. I knew I wanted to go into law. I did not know I would end up in Beijing, China. I did not know I would end up having four kids in six years. And what I perceived was a career break was actually such a gift and motivated me even more.”

In the same interview, Zacharia revealed that she was adopted, and that both her biological family and her adoptive family have “very unhealthy” backgrounds, physically, which has motivated her to stay fit.

Zacharia, who was also on the board of advisors for The White Rose Resistance, an anti-abortion group, explained in an interview on the podcast “We The People with Gates Garcia,” that her biological mother’s story inspired her pro-life activism.

“I was approximately 20, 30 minutes away from being aborted,” she said in the June 2025 interview.

Zacharia explained that her biological mother, whom she described as a 19-year-old “groupie for Mötley Crüe” with a “tough background of Sєxual abuse,” had an abortion appointment already set but opted to go through with the pregnancy after receiving a call from a Christian counselor, who urged her to consider adoption.

Zacharia, who was adopted as a newborn, met her biological mother when she turned 18.

Zacharia has also made a name for herself as a vocal conservative in deep-blue California, where she has spoken out about what she sees as hostility toward Republicans.

Earlier this year, she penned a California Post op-ed тιтled, “Why my gym caved to anti-MAGA bullies — and how I fought back,” recounting the backlash she said erupted when she wore a “Team Trump 2024” hat to her cardio-boxing gym.

Zacharia said the hat represented her pride in helping to “re-elect the greatest president in U.S. history, Donald J. Trump.”

“This isn’t about a hat. It’s about the right to speak and express yourself without fear — even in “tolerant” California. When private businesses become dissent-free zones, that’s the quiet death of freedom,” Zacharia wrote.

“I refuse to stay silent. My consтιтutional rights aren’t negotiable. Tyranny thrives when good people lack courage.”

“So, California: Prove your tolerance is real. If a gym can’t handle a Team Trump hat without descending into hysteria, the toxicity isn’t in the wearer — it’s in the leftist rulebook poisoning everything it touches. Never back down. Never surrender.”

Zacharia is stepping into the role at a pivotal moment for the administration, with the contentious midterm elections less than a month away and Republicans fighting to retain control of the House.

The California Post reached out to Zacharia for further comment.
