From her sharp wit to her unforgettable personality, Dolly Parton always knew how to own a moment.

Here are some of her absolute best.

>> I saw an ad the other day that said, “You too can look like Dolly Parton for only $500.”

Boy, I wish I’d have seen that ad before I dished out the millions it cost me to look like Dolly Parton.

>> [applause] >> Well, yes, I did.

I always enjoyed being a girl.

I know I’ve always been proud of that I was female.

I mean, it’s a good thing I was born a a woman or I’d have been a drag queen.

>> [laughter] >> It’s true.

I would have, I’m sure.

>> Dolly knew exactly how to catch people off guard, and this time she had Arnold to thank for the inspiration.

>> I don’t know if I could or not, but Arnold taught me how to do that.

Uh when we was doing he So, let me see now.

I I don’t know if I can get them going.

They clamp up on me every time.

>> But once they start GOING >> YOU NEED THE CAMERA.

YOU GOT THAT HERE.

IS IT GOING?

OH MY GOD.

I DON’T I DON’T KNOW.

MY HUSBAND’S GOING TO KICK MY į“€ss.

>> NO, NO, NO.

>> OH.

OH, WHAT?

>> SAVE THAT TAPE FOR me later.

Put it on the loop.

>> Speaking of her husband, he apparently had quite a thing for Jennifer Aniston, and Dolly wasn’t afraid to have a little fun with it.

>> Have you known Jennifer Aniston for a while?

>> You know, I love her to death.

My husband is crazy about her.

>> Really?

>> Yes.

And he was more excited that I was going to do a movie with her than he was that I got a chance to write all this music.

See, I think he kind of fantasizes like a threesome with us.

>> You think he would LIKE A >> [cheering] >> CARL, HEY.

CARL.

HEY.

CARL, GOOD JOB.

GO TO BANK, CARL.

HEY.

>> NO, BUT I’M SERIOUS.

HE’S DYING.

>> OH my god.

>> I mean, I think he can’t even get it up to pee, much less get it up for the three of us.

>> Dolly certainly wasn’t worried about saying it out loud, but once her husband found out, things got even more interesting.

>> Is Dolly in trouble with Carl?

>> I know.

[clears throat] Carl is so funny though.

He got a big kick out of that, but he thought it was funny.

He said, “Well, I’m I’m going to not going to do a three some, but I can maybe do a two and a half with you and Jennifer.”

[laughter] So, what did What did that mean?

>> Only Dolly.

This is just the only human that can say that.

Honestly, oh my god.

>> Speaking of being 17, Johnny >> Yes, it was my first encounter with what I thought Sєx appeal was, feeling really drawn to someone.

I mean, I saw him on stage and I just felt things that I’d never felt before.

>> Right.

>> I did cuz he had that funny way of You know like how Elvis did I didn’t know what the all the feelings were, but I >> Something special, something different about people.

Well, like yourself as well, you know, you you you you see it immediately.

There’s a magnetism or something.

>> am I turning you on, am I?

>> Yeah.

>> Yeah, you turn me on, TOO.

>> [cheering] >> YEAH.

>> WE ALL LOVE DOLLY, BUT SHE had her haters, too.

Luckily, she knew exactly how to handle them.

>> It’s not a hooker convention, it’s a Dolly Parton concert.

I guess I should feel hurt, but I don’t cuz I pattern my look after a hooker.

You got to love me.

>> I remember you telling me that you styled yourself after the prosтιтute in town cuz you thought she was so gorgeous.

>> was.

>> Yes.

>> Yeah.

Well, she was called the town Ā Like, she was one of those people that I think Well, I think women were really jealous of her.

I mean, she just was probably like us a lot.

She It She wore her hair all, you know, blonde, peroxided, she wore lipstick, long nails, short skirts, Ń‚Ī¹ŌŠ½Ń‚.

She was beautiful.

>> Yes.

>> And I just thought she was great.

And I Everybody would just say, “Oh, she’s just trash.”

And I thought, “That’s what I’m going to be when I grow up.”

>> Yes.

>> I loved that >> [cheering and applause] >> the way she looked.

>> Yes.

>> Apparently, Dolly once found herself on a worst dressed list, which is pretty hard to believe when you look at how effortlessly gorgeous she always looked.

>> Worst and least dressed list of 2000 >> that, you know.

Of all time, the worst dressed of all time, it said.

I swear.

>> Are you really?

>> I swear.

>> The worst dressed of all time?

>> Yeah, see it there it is.

What does it say?

>> I don’t think you’re that bad.

>> Well, you know what?

It’s just the way I look.

It’s like I I honestly have designers at some of these award shows pay me not to say who designed my gown.

I would SAY I HAVE WALKED THE RED carpet and I have worn it.

But anyway, they said I was one of the worst dressed of all time.

>> You know what?

Are you kidding me?

>> That’s all right with me.

I have a good time.

I bet I’m happier than that guy that wrote that.

And I’m glad that he came out of his closet long enough to LOOK IN MINE.

[laughter] >> YOU MIGHT WONDER WHY THEY NAMED A CLONED sheep after Dolly Parton.

Let’s just say there were two pretty obvious reasons.

>> Oh, yeah.

Oh, I mean it was a compliment.

>> It certainly was.

>> But why did they name it after you?

>> Ridge, it’s true.

There’s a reason for it and I’m glad you asked cuz a lot of people just thought it was a coincidence, but the scientists that did this, from what I understand, and this is the truth, I’m not trying to be funny, they used the mammary glands, the boob glands.

Uh in case those of you don’t know.

Anyway, so they whatever they did, the fusing or however they did that, and so the scientist said who better than Dolly Parton?

You know, that we’re going to use these glands, you know, the way that they cloned it.

So, I was beside myself.

And somebody said, “Well, weren’t you offended that this is so controversial?”

I said, “As far as I’m concerned, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

” [laughter] >> Most people have heard the legendary story of Charlie Chaplin entering his own look-alike contest and finishing third.

But what most people don’t know is that Dolly Parton actually had a similar experience of her own.

>> So, they do that, but yeah, I see it all the time, especially down on Santa Monica uh in LA.

>> Mhm.

Year um I thought well I’m this would be a great night for me to get out and not be noticed cuz there’s so many look-alikes >> So many Dolly Partons walking around I can just go out yeah.

>> Actually I went into this club and I had kind of over exaggerated my own self you know made my beauty mark bigger made my eyes bigger and the hair a little more and I got down there and they were having a Dolly Parton look-alike contest and it was mostly drag queens guys down there it was and so I went in and I got in
Line with everybody else for somebody else won.

>> [laughter] >> I thought that was pretty funny.

>> Um the question is if you could tell teenagers of America today one thing whether it be advice or something of support what would it be?

>> I would say act like it’s raining every day and WEAR YOUR RUBBERS.

>> [cheering] >> DOLLY HAD A WAY OF TELLING A story so convincingly that you’d forget she was capable of pulling the rug out from under you at any moment.

>> I’ll tell you a story something fun that happened how about that?

We were in the restaurant and so we were having our our meal and this old man came over to our table and he sat down and he was just talking to us and we were all laughing we didn’t know him and we just you know we were all just kind of and then so he finally he left and we finished so I went up to pay the bill and the the man said well your grandpa left his bill here too I said my grandpa?

So that old man had come over and kind of scammed us and so I said well that
Wasn’t not my grandpa but I paid it of course so when we left I walked down the street and he was standing there at the light and you know we walked to the corner and so I went over to him I said hey I would have been happy you know to have paid your your bill you know I said but for them to tell me you were my grandpa and he took his walking stick and he started just beating me across the chest I mean just as hard as he could it went wham wham wham wham wham and it hurt.

>> OH MY GOSH.

REAL but then what What what what >> WHAT DO YOU MEAN what happened?

These two big lumps came up and they never DID GO DOWN.

GOT YOU!

>> DOLLY WASN’T USUALLY one to tell people how to live their lives, but when she did offer advice, she certainly knew how to make it memorable.

>> But what has worked for me may not work for you.

Well, take for instance, what has worked for me.

Wigs, Ń‚Ī¹ŌŠ½Ń‚ clothes, >> [cheering] >> push-up bras, high-heeled shoes, 5-in high-heeled shoes.

All I got to say, take my advice, some of you boys out there may find yourself on a little different career path than you might have planned.

>> [laughter] >> I don’t know what to make of me taking a bath on television.

My daddy don’t like it at all.

When he first saw this, he said, “What the hell you doing on television in a bubble bath?”

And my mama said, “Oh, you leave her alone.

That’s cute.

She ain’t as big as a bar of soap anymore.”

And I bet the rest of you is out there wondering if this is my real hair.

Yes, it is.

Now, I’m going to get out of this tub right now and get on a wig before I wreck my image.

I’ll see y’all later.
