BREAKING: Christa Pike Wakes Up and Speaks After Failed Execution — Her Lawyers Reveal a Major Update

Christa Pike is awake and speaking just days after Tennessee’s attempt to execute her by lethal injection failed.

The major update came Tuesday from Pike’s attorneys, who said the 50-year-old is conscious, able to speak and continues to receive critical medical care at a Nashville-area hospital.

The improvement is significant.

As recently as Sunday, Pike was reportedly unconscious and on a ventilator following the September 30 execution attempt.

Tennessee administered two doses of pentobarbital at Riverbend Maximum Security Insтιтution, but Pike continued breathing. She was eventually transported from the prison by ambulance instead of being pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.

Her attorneys now say she has suffered serious injuries to her arms and faces what they expect will be a long recovery. Her prognosis remains unclear, and medical experts caution that she is not yet free from serious health risks.

Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.

Her legal team is also seeking preservation of evidence from the failed execution and wants Pike’s death sentence commuted to life without parole.

My take: Pike being awake and able to speak marks the biggest improvement in her condition since the failed execution. But it does not resolve what happens next. Her recovery remains uncertain, while Tennessee now faces both an investigation into the execution attempt and a new legal battle over whether her death sentence should ever be carried out again.
