Trump Reacts to Christa Pike’s Failed Execution as New Details Emerge About Her Recovery

Christa Pike is conscious and speaking after surviving Tennessee’s failed attempt to execute her, while President Donald Trump has now publicly weighed in on what happened.

Pike, 50, survived two doses of pentobarbital during the September 30 execution attempt at Riverbend Maximum Security Insтιтution.

Her attorneys initially said she was unconscious, on a ventilator and critically ill. But in a major update this week, they confirmed that Pike is now conscious and able to speak.

She remains hospitalized and continues to receive critical medical care. Her attorneys say her prognosis remains unclear and expect a long recovery.

Trump was asked about the failed execution and called it an “interesting situation.” He questioned how the lethal injection could fail and said carrying out such a procedure “shouldn’t be very difficult.”

The fallout continues in Tennessee.

Gov. Bill Lee halted executions and ordered an independent investigation into what went wrong. Pike’s attorneys are also seeking preservation of evidence from the execution attempt as they push for answers about the drugs, IV lines and procedures used.

Pike remains under a death sentence for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
