May 3, 2025. Foot Locker parking lot. Kelly and Eight Mile. Eastpointe, Michigan. Lakylia Taylor, then 19, was walking toward the store with her brother Dejuan and younger relatives.
A confrontation started at a parked car. Juvan Maurice Newman got out. A gun was in that fight. Dejuan was sH๏τ in the shoulder. Court and police accounts say Lakylia ran to her vehicle, came back with a handgun, and fired.
Two men died: Newman and Steven Edward Gardin Jr. Tyjaune Morris-Turner was wounded. Prosecutors did not charge her in Newman’s death. They said that sH๏τ was tied to defending her brother while he was under attack.
They did charge her in Gardin’s death and the wounding of Morris-Turner. August 2026. Macomb County. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other felonies.
Murder and attempted-murder counts were set to drop as part of the deal. Sentencing was set for December 2, 2026. That date had not been replaced in the last clear local report this desk used.
